How To Recognize A Sleeping Disorder

Everyone has experienced at some point in their lives problems related to lack of sleep. Maybe you are one of those people who had many interruptions during sleep and because of this you wake up very tired and unproductive at work or school. These issues are mostly caused by a disease, stress or other factors. On the long run, the lack of sleep can affect your general health; you lose your concentration and memory.

For instance, in some sleeping disorders a common and primary symptom is excessive sleepiness. In many sleep disorders, patients complained that they were feeling extremely tired during the day as a direct result of not getting enough sleep at night or because they have experienced many interruptions that affected the overall quality of their sleep.


On the other hand, there are other sleep disorders that do not have obvious symptoms and for these reason patients do not recognize that they have a sleeping problem until someone is making them aware of this. This might occur when a person has a sleeping partner that can make him or her aware of some of the symptoms.


How to recognize a sleep disorder

One of the first things that you can do if you think you suffer from a sleep disorder is to contact a sleep specialist or doctor. Once in the doctor’s office, he may ask you some questions that will determine from sleep disorder you are suffering. For instance, he may ask you if you snore, if you have troubles when you breathe in your sleep, if you experience excessive sleepiness during the day, if you have difficulties staying awake when you should be feeling energized. He may also ask you if you experience some issues with your memory and concentration, if you have heart problems, if you have insomnia or how much you weight.


If you are answering yes to at least two of these questions that the doctor may ask you this could be a clear sign that you are suffering from a sleep disorder. If so, you don’t need to worry because there are many treatments available that will not only ameliorate the symptoms but that can also treat the cause of your sleeping problems.
